WCF Signs MOU with DMCR for Restoration and Conservation Activities in Thailand
On Tuesday 13th June 2023, Worldview Climate Foundation in Thailand was invited to sign
an MOU with Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) to further
develop Blue Carbon opportunities in support of communities and the UN Sustainable
Development Goals.
WIF is inspired by their shared mission to manage marine and coastal resources, with a
focus on conservation and restoration of degraded areas. This agreement is a commitment
to restore, protect and conserve marine and coastal resources, as well as developing
knowledge about Blue Carbon by supporting education institutions and promoting research
and development projects.
Projects will empower coastal communities through sustainable economic development,
creating jobs and income through activities such as increasing the planting, restoration and
conservation of mangrove forests and other marine and coastal resources. This will both
reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect coastal areas from the increased erosion and
natural disaster-related destruction that has intensified from climate change.
WIF aims to support this partnership between WCF and DMCR by providing its expertise on
mangrove restoration and livelihood-focused Blue Carbon project development, based on
experience of planting 100 million mangrove trees, storing over 50 million tons CO2.
Supporting development of premium Blue Carbon projects in Thailand will be a great step for
WIF in scaling its climate action in support of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and
the Paris Climate Agreement.
